Flea Market Find

One tiny ringlet, encased in gold
Heart on a chain, it must be old.
Found in an attic, so I've been told.

Whose lock of hair I can only guess.
Was it a toddler whose hair was a mess?
Until scissors applied that caused so much stress?

Or was it a child who was taken too soon,
Leaving hearts that are broken and spirits immune
To thoughts of a future that will never be known.
